to move the cutthroats around my Honour Guard, looking at this fellow!!!
The other cutthroats cut down four crossbows, before I flanked them with my Guardsmen. Nathan's dice came good when the four men saved all three hits with sixes!!!
Despite the bog and the distance, Nathan managed to get the Cutthroats in and wiped out the Knights
END OF TURN 3
HOUSE LANNISTER 5 VP's (2 units, 3 objectives)
NEUTRALS 2 VP's (1 unit, 1 objective)
TURN 4
Nathan took the swords and the Cutthroats cut down three Crossbowmen. I attacked them with the Guardsmen and cut them down to two men, and tried to use Hear Me Roar to ensure I finished the off but Roose's A Flayed Man card stopped it
It didn't matter as they failed and died anyway. I shot up the other Cutthroats with the Crossbowmen, and had also used Horses to turn the Honour Guard to face them
The Cutthroats had activated earlier, and weren't in a good position
Roose and his Blackguards failed a charge at the right side Guardsmen, who had been depleted from the shots off the wall. The Honour Guard had charged the cutthroats but failed to kill them...
END OF TURN 4
HOUSE LANNISTER 8 VP's (3 units, 5 objectives)
NEUTRALS 3 VP's (1 units, 2 objectives)
TURN 5
I took the swords and had the crossbowmen shoot the cutthroats down. The Blackguards charged in assaulted the Guardsmen wiping them out. I took the horses and had the Honour Guard take the centre on activation.
END OF TURN 5 (& GAME)
LANNISTERS 11 VP's (4 units, 7 objectives)
NEUTRALS 5 VP's (2 units, 3 objectives)
As I said earlier, a fun and chilled game with Nathan and he was unlucky. I had some good card combo's to get the upper hand earlier by taking out the Stormcrows and Nathan went for some charges that didn't pay off. I had the better of the dice too and my Guardsmen were sitting scoring as Nathan had to go after units.
GAME 2
Tom "TpN1994" Newton
Tom had travelled a long way up from Berkshire
(West London to us Northerners) with three compatriots from Cryptic Cabin gamers, so fair play to all of them for the effort for a one day event. It's standard UK banter that Southerners don't tend to travel much above Birmingham cos it's too far, too cold, too wet and the people up Norf are far too friendly and even talk funny. Having said that, not sure I can travel down to their event on June 30th
MARTELLS
Sunspear Royal Guard with Obara Sand - Eldest Sister (C)
Darkstar Retinue with Oberyn Martell & Quentyn Martell
Starfall Knights
Dune Vipers with Gerold Dayne - Knight of High Hermitage
NCU's
Ellaria Sand & Nymeria Sand
Having won with Jamie, he led my army against House Martell in
"Fire & Blood"
But with a river running through the board. And special deployment rules (no units behind another and no terrain within 6" of any board edge).
The River also had the following:
ROUGH – Units moving into, out of, or through this Terrain
piece subtract 1’’ from the total distance they would move.
LOOSE FOOTING – If the Attacker moved through or ended
on this Terrain piece during a Charge, they suffer a Disorderly
Charge on rolls of 1 or 2.
SHORE UP – If the Attacker moved through or ended on this
Terrain piece during a Charge, and the Defender was not
touching this Terrain piece, the Defender gains +1 to their
Defence Dice Rolls vs this Attack.
TERRAIN & DEPLOYMENT
TERRAIN: 2 visible bogs, Wood (under my Crossbows) and Palisades
MARTELLS:
Left of River: Starfall Knights, Dune Vypers (both Marked)
Right of River: Obara's Sunspear Royal Guard.
(Darkstar Retinue outflanking)
LANNISTERS:
Left of River: Knights of Casterly Rock (marked), Jamie's Honour Guard, Crossbows.
Right of River: Guardsmen, Guardsmen (marked)
THE PLAN
I marked both left side units as I had numerical superiority there, both my hard hitters and range. With my Knights thee, Tom did what I expected, and hoped the Guardsmen would tie him up on my right while I battered the left.
TURN 1
I was going first, so Tom brought on the Darkstar Retinue on my right, behind the Guardsmen as well as playing Sand Diplomacy, making it costly to take the Crown or Letters. So first activation saw me put Pycelle on Horses
So I could turn the right Guards to face Oberyn's unit.
Tom then took the Swords to deny me it, so I activated my crossbows who managed to drop down five Dune Vypers. I'd also left my Knights within a reasonable charge range of his, and he was thinking about it on activating his Starfall Knights, until losing a horse from Subjugation of Power. So he dropped them back to support his Vypers.
Obara's Guard marched up, angling to avoid flank shots. I had charged the Darkstar retinue, and been hacked apart in return.
I marched the Knights of Casterly Rock right up to give Tom food for thought next turn, and also destroyed the palisade (as I deployed too close and couldn't maneuver the Guardsmen there)
BOARD AT END OF TURN 1
TURN 2
Tom had the Starfall Knights activate and charge the Lannister Knights. I took eight wounds in total, but the Lannister Supremacy dropped the Martell's down by four.
I attacked back off of the swords and wiped them out, healing from fuelled by slaughter in the process and surging forth up behind the Dune Vypers and still to activate.
I also weakened the Dune Vypers with Pycelle, who in turn charged my Crossbows cutting four down.
I took the horses and retreated the crossbows out of melee, then the Darkstar retinue savaged my Guardsmen
But I passed the panic check
The crossbowmen then opened up on the Dune Vypers in style, all hitting without the short range re-roll
All six wounded and the lone Gerold Dayne's courage failed and he ran away and hid in the woods... Elsewhere, Obara took some wounds, to by-pass my Guards by the river and wipe out my unit stalling the Darkstar retinue, wiping them out. I marched my other Guardsmen out of the path of both the remaining Martell units.
END OF TURN 2
HOUSE LANNISTER 7 VP's (2 marked units destroyed, 4pts + 3pts)
HOUSE MARTELL 4 VP's (1 marked unit, 4pts)
TURN 3
I took the horses and moved my Guardsmen away form Obara. Tom took the letters, I took the bags to heal up a horse. Tom used crown and dropped three crossbowmen with a failed panic
I shifted the crossbows up and shot Obara's Guards, hoping to draw her in as well as my forces gathered. I only killed a few, and she then used reckless heroism to skip across the river and wipe out my crossbows, dropping back out of a prospective charge range and restoring her units wounds. In hindsight, a mistake on my part. The Darkstar retinue marched up ready to go first next turn.
END OF TURN 3
LANNISTER 7 VP's (2 marked units destroyed, 4pts + 3pts)
MARTELL 6 VP's 2 units (4 pts and 2 pts)
TURN 4
Tom took the horses to move up, I took the bags to deny it and heal my cavalry, the Darkstar Retinue charged home and nearly did my Guardsmen. I activated them and retreated the Guardsmen out of melee
Tom had Obara's Royal Guard charge my cavalry, dropping them a rank. I flanked them with Jamie's Honour Guard, cancelling Rising Temperatures with Counterplot.
END OF TURN 4
LANNISTER 7 VP's (2 marked units destroyed, 4pts + 3pts)
MARTELL 6 VP's 2 units (4 pts and 2 pts)
TURN 5
BOARD AT START OF TURN
Activating first, I took the swords and had Jamie's Honour Guard hack into the Royal Guard
Despite shieldwall and with the help of Hear Me Roar, the Royal Guard were cut down to five. Tom then had Oberyn's Darkstar retinue charge home and wipe out the Guardsmen, before Over running into the flank of my Knights, but they held. I then made the mistake of activating the Knights and attacking the Royal Guard with the prospect of healing from fuelled by slaughter. But Tom played Rising Temperatures!!!
I dropped unit down to two, but Obara's Guard survived and attacked my Knights back and wiped them out, healing her own unit by three!!!
I activated Jamie's unit and cut the Guard down to two as Tom rolled a double six to pass the panic!!!
Tom healed from the bags, so I took the Crown, retrieved Hear Me Roar and forced a panic. And Tom scored another double six!!!
Taking the Horses, Tom retreated the Royal Sunspear Guard out of danger
END OF TURN 5
HOUSE LANNISTER 7 VP's (2 units, 4pts + 3pts)
HOUSE MARTELL 12 VP's (4 units, 4pts, 2pts, 2pts, 4pts)
My plan worked! It worked perfectly. But two key errors meant I blew a seven - nil lead!!! I shouldn't have tried to shoot the Royal Guard as it put them in charge range, and allowed Obara to wipe them out. I should have moved back and let them come to me properly. And when Tom did come over, and the Darkstar boys overran, I was still on top. The right play was to activate the Honour Guard and finish Obara off, but instead I activated my Knights of Casterly Rock. But Tom played exceptionally well and never gave in, he took the chances I offered and got the cards he needed at the end to stymie my and pull off an excellent comeback and well deserved win. It was a real cracker of a game, despite me being badly beaten in the end. But Jamie had lost a battle and also not died, so thematically it was in keeping with my forces...
A FEW PAINTED FORCES
Matt Austen
HOUSE BOLTON - BEST PAINTED ARMY
Steve Norris's excellent Baratheon's
Josh Clack had these cracking little NCU trays...
GAME 3
Jake "JVeryard" Veryard
Jake was also up from Cryptic Cabin, and had a lovely painted Lannister force.
For this battle, he took Tywin Lannister so perfect of face his least favourite child!!!
We had to roll for weather, and ended up with Fog which reduced long ranges to short,
and battlefield effects etc to long range!!!. Still, in a downpour, all movement would
have been reduced by 1" and we had 7 Lannister Guards between us.
Lannister Halberdiers with Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock (C)
Lannister Guardsmen with Jaime Lannister - The Young Lion
Lannister Guardsmen with Sandor Clegane - The Hound
Lannister Guardsmen with Qyburn - Forbidden Knowledge
Lannister Guardsmen with Ser Robert Strong - The Silent Giant
The High Sparrow & Cersei Lannister
"THE GHOST OF HARRENHALL"
One of the special trophies up for grabs was for this battle, and would go to the person
who killed the most enemy attachments. Jake had five of his own and I gave him two!!!
So I had seven to aim for!!!
TERRAIN: Wall, Palisades, Corpse Pile, Wall, Palisades
TYWIN LANNISTERS: Guardsmen (Qyburn, turncoat, Maimed Jamie), Sandor Guards, Strong's Guards, Tywin Halberdiers, Jamie Guards
TYRION LANNISTERS: Guardsmen, Knights of Casterly Rock, Tyrion Guards, Crossbows, Guardsmen
Qyburn's armour reducing "Violent Reactions" meant they were ideal for Jamie and the Catelyn Stark Turncoat!!!
TURN 1
I took first activation and got Letters, Jake Horses, then bags after I'd moved a unit.I eventually took crown.
We both marched everywhere bar Tyrion who decided to head left as he'd be outmatched on his own. My plan would be to crush the left and swing in as my crossbows and right held the right. With both of us heavy infantry and Lannister supremacy on nine units, this would be a good attritional grind!!!
TURN 2
After destroying the right palisades, Jake engaged with my right flank. I had marched up, took the objective and his Guardsmen charged me, but I didn't use my supremacy, waiting until the Halberdiers charged and also fluffed their attacks. My Lannister supremacy decimated them in conjunction with a shift and shot from the crossbows!!!
With this good melee, I took the crown for Hear me Roar and I did heal from Fealty to the crown as Tywin was left alone following a fail that healed up my crossbows (They'd lost men from Supremacy)
On the left, I had to destroy the Palisades, as they'd stopped me charging, and my Guards and Qyburns had engaged but they controlled the objective. Tyrion marched to threaten Robert Strong's men and protect my cavalry flank.
END OF TURN 2
TYWIN 2 VP's (2 objectives)
TYRION 1 VP (1 objective)
BOARD END OF TURN 2
TURN 3
I took the swords and had the crossbows shoot Tywin down. Qyburns Guardsmen cut down a single man of mine. I attacked back after using Catelyn Turncoat to deny them Lannister Supremacy.
I'd also bribed the unit so they didn't roll many dice. I reduced them a bit
I activated the Guards on the right objective, but didn't do anything, marching my crossbows up into Jamie's Guards flank with Tyrion's Cunning Ploy card
I shot them up next activation
And passed the Lannister supremacy with ease!!!
Sadly, Tyrion got charged by the Hound and was reduced down in strength before his Big Brother flanked them and wiped them out retreating back to the centre. But I got the Knights to charge home against Sandor's Guards, all ten hitting!!!
I killed nine and even had my dice aced the Supremacy thrown back!!!
END OF TURN 3
THE LATE TYWIN LANNISTER 5 VP's (4 objectives, 1 unit)
THE LATE LITTLE TYRION LANNISTER 3 VP's (2 objectives, 1 unit)
Right side objective
Centre & Left side objectives
TURN 4
Sandor's unit was healed by bags, so I crown zapped Sandor's Guard forcing them back down to three men and (I did draw back Hear Me Roar).
Sandor's men attacked the Knights but rolled poorly and I saved the hits. The Lannister Supremacy with Hear Me Roar saw them die...
And heal up my left Guardsmen
Jake had his Cersei weakened my crossbows when she took the letters.
which meant I got one hit on Jamie's Guards
Qyburns Guardsmen managed to kill my Guardsmen due to some really duff saves on my part were flanked by my Knights of Casterly Rock
Another TEN lance hits, in the flank had Jake cursing my magic dice tray (ok, so only cavalry were seeing it)
Having dropped them down to three men, I had Pycelle take the swords
killing the last Guard, capturing Qyburn (who had been looking after Jamie) and successfully rescuing the Heir to Casterly Rock...
END OF TURN 4
TYWIN LANNISTER 7 VP's (5 objectives, 2 units)
TYRION LANNISTER 8 VP's (4 objectives, 3 units, Jamie saved)
The turn around in points was deceptive as my Guardsmen on right were hanging on and Strong wasn't shifting form centre, so I was in trouble.
TURN 5
I couldn't risk shooting into Jamie for fear of killing my own unit, and suffering from supremacy. So i took horses to move my crossbows back to the centre.
Sure enough, Jamie's Guards finished off my right side Guardsmen
Some good card play me saw me drop a rank off of the Guardsmen when I took the swords and also deny them the ability to heal from the bags. I had dropped to three from the Lannister Supremacy though.
But the Hear Me Roar and Subjugation of Power combination saw my crossbowmen die on their own activation...
(Payback from my earlier game of doing the same thing)
I charged home with my Knights, but Ser Robert had saved his order from the crossbow shots and used it well, dropping only three men from the charge and then they retreated back out of melee.
END OF TURN 5 (and GAME)
TYWIN LANNISTER 11 VP's (7 objectives, 4 units)
TYRION LANNISTER 8 VP's (4 objectives, 3 units + Jamie)
Wow, that was an epic battle to finish the event. The game had a real ebb and flow to it and it really could have went either way. Some poor dice on both sides, and cool that both our commanders died first. Jake was really cool to play against (as were Tom and Nathan) as we both made minor errors that we allowed each other to redress (forgetting an order at right time, etc). Was also happy I managed to get five attachment kills too...
So another great Leeds event, with a larger blurb below. Need to give a big shout out to Tom and Paul for their effort and time putting together the scenario tweaks and yeah, this is a cool way to do events!!! Also, there were quite a few distance travellers, Tom and Jake you've seen above, but also another Jake who I've been chatting to online regarding his Free Folk lists (his Mag list is on show in the painting bit above). I didn't realise he was from Cryptic Cabin until end of event, so got to meet 3 of 4 from their contingent. (Sorry Maisie, didn't get to play or chat but your Walrus list looked boss and Elliot had nice things to say after your Tormund list beat him in the last game)
And the locals were also out in force, so great to see new faces and new players as well as the regulars. Having not played too much for last three months, really great to be back at it and set us up nicely for the Northern GT on 11th/12th

A WEEK LATER SUMMARY FROM TOM
(THE TOURNAMENT ORGANISER)
Hi everyone! Hope all is well with you and yours
This post is long but appreciate if you read it through.
You may have seen from my previous posts that I held a themed event this past Sunday at Leodis Games in Leeds, UK.
The Conquest of the Riverlands.
Just
a report and thank you post this time!
Another massive thank you to
Gaming Figures for the ASoIaF product support. Blown away with the generosity and it was very happily recieved by the players. Thank you to Tracy at Ignishousepotions on etsy for the glass awards such as the Wildfire and Tears of Lys. These were amazing quality and very cool!
Also to
Russ Painting and LAZERARK for the fantastic work on the trophies. I've included ways of viewing their expertise at the end. So the event was fantastic!! 30 players took on list restrictions and altered scenario rules to battle it out for all the prizes and play theme over meta. If you want these rules pm me, only to happy to share!
When the chaos settled the winners were -
1st place - James Harrison - Martells
Best New Comer (a fight between players who were attending their 1st/2nd ASoIaF event)
Best Themed -
Brian McGonigle with his Lannisters. Just to add that his first commander was Jaime. When defeated, he used Maimed Jamie and Tyrion commander to try rescue his brother!
Best Sport -
Elliot Coulbeck for being a great opponent and running Nerf Watch
For last place we had
Nathan Birbeck being the only player to run neutrals. He fought hard and deserved his Bolton Starter set!
Special mention to Adam Power for his SHAME award for bringing filthy lists to 3 events in a row! SHAME Adam!! We had engraved letter opener swords that players could win with keeping score on the following results, along with the winners.
Most Monsters Killed - Stephen Connor
Well done to everyone who participated!
We had the First In Battle trophies -
Wildfire - Adam Sarge
Tears of Lys - James Harrison
Milk of the Poppy - Matt Austen
Dragons Blood - Michael Bywood
There is a photo of how these were awarded.
And finally, the stories! This is why I love this game. You get yourself a good list, good deployment and fight it out. But when the little things turn up in games, that's why I play!
These are just a few that happened on the day-
The Mountain, being the last alive in his unit, was felled by Oberyn Martell using poison.
Tyrion's unit of crossbows, killed all alone Tywin in a Lannister v Lannister battle.
Ramsey and a unit of Cutthroats flayed their way through Unsullied Swords, Pikemen and then Drogon!
Sandor Clegane eating all the chicken to stay alive, using 4 different abilities and triggers to heal.
A unit of Umber Greataxes cutting through Baratheon armour, striking down units left and right before stumbling into the river and falling to a unit of floating helmets.
And many more! Lots of max panic failures and passes on 12+. Lannister Supremacy vs Lannister Supremacy causing ridiculous rolls. A fight in the river vs healing resulting in 60 wounds being dealt.
Crazy stuff from all players, who all took their successes and failures with the same smiles and laughter all the way through the day.
So thank you to you all for making this event what it was! We now have many more local interested players getting into the game and others are starting up new armies. Plus alot of messages about tickets for next event which I'm hard at work on now with even more rules shenanigans and prize support.
Thank you for reading!
Love this game and the community. Happy Gaming!
