Random Terrain & Deployment
Terrain: Wall, Weirwood & Wall
STARKS: Tully Cavaliers, Eddards Honour Guard, Shaggydog, Tully Cavaliers, Stormcrows
FREEFOLK: Spearwives, Boar, Raiders with Borroq, Mance's Trappers,
Giant Spear thrower, Spearwives, (Jarl's Spearwives on outflank)
I planned to take the left, use the Giant to snipe from distance and kill the wolf
and hit the Cavaliers with double units.
ROUND 1
Ste opted to go first, so I brought on my Spearwives early on the right to distract the
Tully's on my right as Ste took the Letters, making the unit vulnerable.
I had Craster take the Swords allowing the giant to attack Shaggydog on 6's
I scored one hit, doing two wounds but Ste passed his panic so healed one back.
On my next activation, I attacked again, scoring another hit,
but same result, two wounds, passed panic, healed one back.
Ste then took the bags to heal up the wolf fully
Ste used an early pass as I advanced up my Spearwives centrally and on the left.
I moved my Mance to my right as I changed plans to hit the right and draw the left Tully's away
My forces advanced up and last activation I marched up my Spearwives to hit and
hold the Tully's on first activation next round
Board End of Round 1
ROUND 2
Craster took the swords, the spearwives threw spears, causing one wound but healing
when passed its panic. I charged, rolling a one on the way in
I did two wounds, but by passing his panic, Ste healed two and did one to me...
Ste then played Fury of the Fallen, charging in with Eddard, but also rolled a one
and only managed to kill five Spearwives
As Ste prepared to activate an NCU, I played Wildling Diplomacy (to target auto wounds
on Shaggydog) but Ste declined the activation
This allowed me to steal the bags and heal the Spearwives
I retreated away on my Spearives activation, and Shaggydog failed a 4+ charge
Ste had the Cavaliers charge home, with Devastating impact...
All hits wounded, with the vulnerable but I passed the panic twice...
I had Endless Horde on them, but holding them up was good as Ste was first next round
I had taken the left objective, as had Ste on his side. Borroq's Raiders had moved up to block Eddard
taking the centre, so Eddard's Honour Guard killed seven for their temerity.
Mance moved back toward centre, while my other Spearwives lined up for next turn.
BOARD END OF ROUND 2
END OF ROUND 2
STARKS 2 VP's (2 objectives)
FREEFOLK 1 VP (1 objective)
ROUND 3
Ste took the Swords, so I played my second Wildling Diplomacy, doing two wounds on
Shaggydog
Ste then had his Cavaliers finish off my Spearwives (allowing Raiders to come back on
my left with Endless Horde) to free up my Spearwives there.
I activated my Speawives and threw Spears at Shaggydog,
who saved the one hit, autopassing the panic to heal a wound.
My attacks resulted in no wounds,
so the Wolf fully healed. Shocking!!!
Oh, and the attack allowed Ste to play Fury of the Fallen (he'd Sansa'd it back into his hand)
This wiped out Borroq's Raiders (leaving his boar?)
Shaggydog then savaged my Spearwives
With my army all over the place, I had to take the fight to Ste and charged into his other Tully's after
spear tossing. And I had Sundering from Overwhelming assault and caused five wounds total,
taking 3 from a failed panic.
I had Craster take the Letters but change and heal the right spearwives, using his once per game ability too
I had dropped a few Honour Guard with traps, before Mance moved up and shot into their flank, dropping them to six. It would have been another three as Ste fluffed his panic, but he played Northern Defiance to pass..
I remembered Mance's Counter-Strategy, but I failed that...
My raiders took the left objective, and the Tully's killed three Spearwives
The Stormcrows charged off the far right objective to cut my Spearwives down to five.
Eddard came off the centre killing five Trappers.
And the Cavaliers really should have finished the job, but I rolled three sixes form the nine hits, and passed the morale
Last activation saw my Giant try and hit Shaggydog, but all three shots missed, but I did manage to fail the panic on the Spearwives engaged and lost three of them...
Things were looking grim for the Free Folk
BOARD END OF ROUND 3
END OF ROUND 3
STARKS 4 VP's (2 units, 2 objectives)
FREEFOLK 2 VP's (2 objectives)`
ROUND 4
Activating first, I took the swords and had the giant target Shaggydog. No wounds on the dog, but another failed panic test saw me wipeout my Spearwives...
After Ste had picked himself off the floor and stopped laughing, he took the bags and used assault orders to finish off Mance!!!
Surging Eddard up to come after my Giant. I played Diversion tactics to move my giant up
I then charged the Giant into the Cavaliers. They passed their morale and healed the wounds I
had dealt, and gave me one
Ste took the horses to bring Eddard into my rear, before charging the Giant.
Two wounds left before the panic, which I just failed on the re-roll
My Spearwives attacked, moving over to allow my Raiders a chance to join them
Instead, the other Cavaliers joined in
My Raiders failed their charge, and Ste had the Stormcrows and pesky wolf take the right side objectives...
BOARD AT END OF TURN 4 (& GAME)
STARKS 10 VP's (5 units, 5 objectives)
FREEFOLK 2 VP's (2 objectives)`
Well, that was simply depressing. In fairness, I have a psychological disadvantage facing Ste
and his Tully cavalry, cos they terrify me. But I have no one to blame for this debacle but myself.
My plan changed but I wasn't set up to do it, and fed my units in without support, the Spearwives
followed but Borroq too. My dice weren't good, but i simply didn't co-ordinate my units with
each other and my plan, well, wasn't thought through. Ste barely broke sweat in this game,
with his card plays and healing from Tully's just knocking any faint hopes early on.
As a warm up for Wales, well, Ste will be on fire but I need to get my sh*t together...
