Callum made it down for out Thursday night A Song of Ice and Fire gathering at JUSTPLAY and rocked up with a Victarion Greyjoy list.I was expecting Baratheons, but was thrilled as I had Thoros of Myr leading the Brotherhood, reliving his past glories against the Iron Islanders.
As well as myself and Callum playing, Ray was down with his Baratheons to face Aden's Greyjoys, and Cameron was down with his Freefolk to face Andy's Greyjoys (below)
Speaking of Greyjoys, the Wardens of the North-West event has now SOLD OUT, but Aden "Theon" (or Reek?) will be running Greyjoys I'm sure
Callum's force was pretty hard hitting but no Nute!?!
Victarion (C)in Iron Victory Crewrew
Dagmar Cleftjaw in Stony Shore Pillagers
Ironmakers with Baelor Blacktyde
Golden Company Crossbowmen
NCU's
Christofer Botley, Balon Greyjoy & Asha wannabee Queen
I opted for no Allies, and had Thoros and a few Characters
Thoros of Myr (C) in Men-at-Arms
Lem Lemoncloak in Peasants
Gendry in Peasants
Anguy in Archers
Sworn Knights
NCU's
Ghost of HighHeart and Lady Stoneheart
Blurry Callum!!!
TERRAIN & DEPLOYMENT (and first moves)
Random Terrain: wall, wall, corpse pile, hedge, woods
GREYJOYS: Victarion in IV Crew, Ironmakers, GC Crossbows, Stony Shore Pillager
BROTHERHOOD: Knights, Peasants, Thoros's Men at Arms, Peasants
(Archers off board with Anguy's Outflank)
ROUND 1
Callum opted to go first, so I left the Archers off (until Turn 3)
Callum took the Letters, I took the Horses. Victarion then marched up on my left, so I marched my Peasants upon the right
Callum took the crown, so I took the swords to deny any GC crossbow shots
I passed the panic check on my Peasants
I held back a bit as the Greyjoys marched up, brining the Sworn knights in to the centre of the board
BOARD END OF ROUND 1
ROUND 2
Going first, I played score a VP if enemy takes tactics zone before you. Callum played if opponent takes Swords and Horses score 1 VP
Going first, I activated my right Peasants and moved about an inch. My plan as for Callum to engage me and get tied up when my Archers came on in the rear next round.
I'd then passed with both my NCU's, a bit risky as Callum still had two left at that time
As it turns out, Callum didn't want to gift me any Victory points and passed with all three of his NCU's. The GC Crossbows managed to kill one Man-at-Arms. His Ironmakers had took the centre, and both Victarion and the Pillagers were unactivated. With the Archers due on, I took a gamble...
I activated the Sworn Knights, moved up and then made a 4+ charge, rolling the four required. And was just out of charge arc for the Pillagers!!!
Victarions Iron Victory crew moved across, and the Pillagers turn slightly to face my cavalry flank
ROUND 3
Callum played scored 2 VP's if control centre, I played score VP if opponent takes Swords or Horses
I brought on my Archers behind the woods
I also used Knights of Hollow hill to march up Thoros' Men at Arms and block any flank charge into the Knights.
Callum had the Ironmakers flank my Knights, charging in over Corpse pile helping me with no re-rolls and managed to drop a Knight. The Golden Company retreated out of melee with the Knights. In response, I flanked the Ironmakers with Gendry's peasants.
Scoring an impressive five hits
Which, aided by a failed panic check, saw four Ironmakers drop
Callum took the Horses to move up Victarion into my Knights flank, so I activated them and turned to face, cutting into the Ironmakers and dropping five
Before Victarion charged, Callum played the Iron Price and healed four Ironmakers. Victarion's Crew cut my Knights down to four wounds
And passed the crucial panic check
Twice...
I charged into the Stony Shore Pillagers with Thoros and his Men-at-Arms
But my weakened attacks saw none actually hit!!!
That attack allowed the GC Crossbows to move up with "sentinel". The Pillagers activated, losing a man to Lady Stoneheart's influence but passe their morale from Loved by the Smallfolk card
I activated my Archers and dropped four Pillagers
Callum took the Swords, and due to Vic's crew being weakened, Callum swung his Ironmakers at the Peasants, so that he could control the centre objective. He succeeded in dropping a full rank but I did pass my panic check.
But I healed Gendry's peasants by using Regroup and reform, denying Callum the centre before going for a 5+ charge with Lem Lemoncloaks Peasants...
They succeeded in dropping the Pillagers to one rank and their panic failure allowed me to heal up my Knights
BOARD at END OF ROUND 3
BROTHERHOOD 2 VP's (2 mission pts)
GREYJOYS VP's
ROUND 4
Activating first, I played Swords and Letters as I figured correctly that Callum played Score a VP and take first turn. Callum activated his Stony Shore and attacked the peasants, cutting four men down and healing four from Abundant promises. I took the bags to deny it to Callum and heal up my Knights. Callum took the Horses and retreated the Ironmakers out of melee.
I took the Swords, allowing Callum to score a VP but had my Men at Arms attack the Pillagers
destroying them. But Callum played What is Dead. TWICE!!! I finished them off with an archer volley...
The Ironmakers charged the Peasants but Gendry's resilience meant I only lost one Peasant and passed the panic check
Freed up and un-activated, Thoros and his Men-at-Arms charged in against the Golden Compnay Crossbows, killing six of them.
Victarion's Victory Crew attacked the Sworn Knights, but failed to scratch their armour, and I played Sudden Retreat to withdraw the Knights, allowing them to swing down behind the two remaining Crossbowmen. I then activated and charged in wiping them out.
BOARD AT END OF ROUND 4
My forces were a bit crowded in top right, but I had dropped two Greyjoy units, although the Stony Shore Pillagers had came back through Balon...
BROTHERHOOD 4 VP's (2 Missions, 2 units)
GREYJOYS 2 VP's (2 Missions)
ROUND 5
I played score 2 VP's if unengaged unit in enemy deployment, Callum score a VP for each objective.
Callum went for a 4+ charge with Victarion but failed with a two...
I took the Horses to deny Callum it and then retreated Gendry's Peasants out of combat. Callum took the bags to heal up Ironmakers, so I took the Crown as I need it for some unit bonuses. Callum took the Letters, leaving the Swords open for later. My Archers shot into the Victory crew flank and dropped three. We repositioned and took objectives.
END OF ROUND 5
BROTHERHOOD 7 VP's (2 units, 5 Missions)
GREYJOYS 4 VP's (4 Mission)
ROUND 6
With scoring per objective, Callum still had a chance
Victarion charged into Thoros's Men-at-Arms, dropping five from the attack alone
But I passed the panic check
Attacking back from Swords with the Archers, who shifted back two inches to allow cavalry to flank should need arise. With a Precision and Vicious flank attack, the Iron Victory Crew dropped to three men.
Callum attacked back with Assault Orders and Sustained assault.
This came close, cutting the Men-at-Arms down to leave Thoros standing alone, flaming sword in hand. I activated the Sworn Knights and used Fiery charge to make Victarion panicked before the Sworn Knights hit home, wiping out the Greyjoy unit
The Stoney Shore pillagers charged home and wiped out Lem's Peasants, while the Ironamkers did manage to get into Gendry's unit but his resilience helped them survive and then retreated out of combat to keep the objective.
END OF ROUND 6 (and Game)
BROTHERHOOD 10 VP's (3 units, 7 Mission)
GREYJOYS 6 VP's (1 unit, 5 Mission)
Another win for the Brotherhood!!! A good game for me, but Callum was very reactive to me rather than being aggressive with an aggressive Greyjoy force. My Mission cards play fitted my plan, and went well. The lack of NCU's on Turn two helped me, no doubt and avoiding Victarion until Turn 3 was a bonus. My Knights heroically held the centre (aided by Gendry's Peasants) and allowed me to gang up effectively on my right. The Archers in teh rear just kept whittling the Greyjoys down, and I had some helpful healing tools. Revenge for the kicking Callum's Baratheons gave me at the Ribble Rumble...
