Conquest: First Blood One Hundred Kingdoms v W'adrhun

Two games in a week and fresh from their first skirmish victory, Chris's wandering W'adrhun warband would face a sterner test as Lord Farquhar sets out to defeat the invaders, bringing his Household Guard and a Chapter Mage...

And back up at the Ribble Warriors, with a new venue at Moor Park social club, Blackpool Rd, Fulwood, Preston PR2 3AE. Good to see some old faces again...

Chris's warband was led by his Matriach Queen of the Cult of Death, leading 7 Blooded and 8 Braves.  She was supported by a Predator leading a unit of 6 Hunters and a pair of Raptor Riders as below.

My 100 Kingdom force consisted of:

Noble Lord
12 Household Guard
12 Militia Bowmen

Chapter Mage with Fire Dart
12 Men-at-Arms
10 Men-at-Arms

Lord Farquhar and his Household Guard

We played Plunder the Camp again, setting the board up as below

With a couple of hills, and a wood, the board was fairly open and the Queens tent was the central objective...

The left hill overlooking the far objective...

The sword is nearest objective to the 100 Kingdom deployment age...

TURN 1

My Militia marched on centrally, while the W'adrhun Hunters headed for the hill on my left...

TURN 2

My large Men-at Arms headed for the woods, and lost a man to a strong armed javelin shot from the Hunters...

The Braves charged up onto the right sided hill, as the W'adrhun took the highground

A tempting target for my bowmen, who managed to score a hit but it was saved by a wicker shield...

The W'adrhun also brought on their Raptor riders centrally, running straight down the valley...

My smaller 10 man unit of Men-at-Arms took the right objective.

And my Chapter Mage advanced on the left, targeting the Hunters with Fire Dart, killing one...

The W'adrhun Predator and retinue marched onto the objective nearest them...

Too focussed on the enemy the Predator failed to notice the documents (being light, he cannot control the objective)

The Men-at-Arms can however, so first VP went to the 100 Kingdoms...

TURN 3

The W'adrhun seized the initiative and the Raptors charged home against the Militia Bowmen

The flurry of blows eviscerated the Bowmen, killing seven...

They lost two more who fled when their morale failed...

Still, the valiant three that remained attacked back, but failed to score a singe hit...

The Hunters, seeing the mage ahead had retreated down off the hill. The Chapter Mage, moved centrally, to look for new targets. In doing so, she left herself exposed as the Predator advanced into his crossbow range

A better view. The Predator had no line of site to a closer unit, hence why he could target the Mage. A dangerous oversight from the Mage...

Three successful hits, each causing two wounds was easily enough to finish of the Mage...

In the centre, the men-at-arms managed five hits against the Raptors but the leathery hides saved three...

The left hand Men-at -Arms marched up to plunder the Queen's tent and secure the objective.

The Braves charged down off the hill but failed to reach the Men-at-Arms to aid the Raptor riders...

With the Noble Lord Farquhar advancing on to nearest objective, the 100K were 4 VP's to nil up...

TURN 4

The 100K won the initiative and the Men-at Arms struck first...

The Raptor attacks back were ineffectual, and the other Men-at-Arms marched up to the farthest objective, as the Predator had backed off...

The Hunters are more missile than melee, so decided to try and reduce the Men at Arms with short range javelins

And scored 5 hits...

With a -1 to my save, I lost five men...

The Blooded marched on to contest the objective, preventing a 100K victory...

The Matriarch Queen advanced on...

Reviving the recently deceased Raptor...

TURN 5

I won the initiative, and the Men-at-Arms activated cutting down the recently revived Raptor. In return, the Braves charged in to the Men at Arms

As the Raptor finished off the remaining Militia Bowmen...

Leaving the objective, Lord Farquhar charged into the remaining Raptor, slaying it outright...

On the far objective, the Hunters once again speared the Men-at-Arms to death...

With some exceptional dice rolling...

With the defense dice I rolled awful...

The Blooded moved up on to the centre objectives, while the Matriarch also closed in. The Household Guards marched on to the right objective...

End of TURN 5

W'ADRUHN 3 VP's

 100 KINGDOMS 5 VP's

TURN 6

The Noble Lord activated first

charging into the Braves and issuing a challenge to the Matriarch Queen

Although the Queen was wounded, it was only a glancing blow and her Glaive managed to inflict two wounds on Lord Farquhar...

The Braves caused a wound on the Men-at-Arms after splitting attacks to assist the Queen

The Queen caused another wound and the Household Guards charged into the Braves...

As they lived up to their expectations and wiped out the Braves, the Blooded charged into both the Lord and his Guard...

Honour means nothing to the savage W'adrhun, and the Leader of the Blooded cut down Lord Farquhar from behind as he was engaged with the Queen...

The Blooded cut into the Household Guard, and the death of the 100K Lord, the w'adrhun had secured another victory...

End of TURN 7

W'Adrhun 9 VP's

100 Kingdom 6 VP's

Closer than last time, but losing the Mage so early hurt my efforts. I could have won had I not lost so many Men-at-Arms to the Hunters spears, but again we're still learning the game and I seem to be making more basic errors than Chris. While my Noble Lord can be quite good, I fluffed my attacks and the Matriarch Queen's Glaive is really nasty.

The Raptors on the charge will mince any units, with Flurry allowing re-rolls. The Household Guard and Blooded are equally well matched, with the humans better army counter by the blood fury of the Blooded...
